Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Derek Carr passed for 214 yards and two touchdowns, while Sebastian Janikowski kicked four field goals as the Oakland Raiders topped the Buffalo Bills, 26-24, on Sunday. Carr completed 17-of-34 attempts and tossed scores to James Jones and Jamize Olawale for the Raiders (3-12), who have a chance to match their win total of the past two seasons if they top the Broncos in Denver next week. Latavius Murray and Darren McFadden combined for 140 yards on 32 attempts, while Kenbrell Thompkins posted 90 yards on five receptions. Kyle Orton finished 32-of-49 for 329 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions for the Bills (8-7), who conclude the regular season at New England seven days from now. With the running game largely shackled to the tune of 13 yards on 13 attempts, Fred Jackson totaled 93 yards on nine catches, while Sammy Watkins, Scott Chandler and Robert Woods posted a TD catch apiece. Chandler and Orton combined for a 29-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth and Buffalo closed the gap to 19-17. The Raiders went ahead by a 26-17 count with 2:51 to go after Carr found Olawale from one yard out. That score was set up by a pair of big plays: Carrs 51-yard completion to Andre Holmes on 3rd-and-22 along with McFaddens 25-yard run to the one on a 2nd-and-6. On 3rd-and-21 from the 9-yard line, Brandian Ross stepped in front of an Orton pass at the Bills 33 and returned it seven yards. However, Janikowski failed to convert from 48 yards out and Buffalo had the ball back with 1:55 to play. Woods was in the end zone to accept a 30-yard pass from Orton, and the extra point pulled the visitors to 26-24 with 1:09 showing. Charles Woodson recovered the onside kick and Carr knelt twice to run off the remaining time. Orton found Watkins for a 42-yard catch-and-run score to cap Buffalos initial drive of the contest. Carrs three-yard strike to Jones evened the score early in the second and Janikowskis 45-yard field goal just before the midway point gave Oakland a 10-7 edge. His 36-yard boot provided a 13-7 margin with 1:11 left before halftime, but Dan Carpenter nailed a 54-yard try on the final play for a three-point game. A 38-yard try from Janikowski ended the Raiders first series of the third pushed the hosts lead to 16-10, and he was good from 49 yards out later in the period. New York will miss the playoffs for the fourth straight year, and Ryan and general manager John Idzik have come under heavy criticism by fans who have urged owner Woody Johnson to make changes. This was another game that I thought we had a heck of a chance to win against New England, Ryan said. Thats been the story probably the last four out of five times we played them.Several fans waved yellow penalty towels at MetLife Stadium with the words Fire Idzik! printed in green. This latest loss certainly didnt make the Jets faithful — or Ryan and Idzik — feel any better about their situation.Today being our last home game of the season, obviously we wanted to leave our fans with a good taste in their mouths and go out on a good note, Jets quarterback Geno Smith said. But we fell short today and I feel bad. I feel terrible. When you put your heart out there, when you play as hard as you can, you want to come away with a victory and be fulfilled. The Jets (3-12) finish the season next week at Miami. The Patriots (12-3) earned a first-round bye and could clinch home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs if Cincinnati beats Denver on Monday night.Marcus Williams first NFL interception put the Jets in position to go ahead when Tom Bradys pass tipped off Brandon LaFell and into his hands. But Donta Hightower sacked Smith on third-and-4 for a 10-yard loss, setting up Folks long attempt.Thats something you learn from, Ryan said. You cant take a sack there no matter who is in your face.dddddddddddd. Get rid of the football. After Folks miss, Brady and the Patriots were then able to run out the clock for the win, sealed by Brandon Boldens 17-yard run on third down with just under 2 minutes left.(There were) a lot of key plays at the end, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. Our players came through on one right after the other.Brady finished 23 of 35 for 182 yards, a modest showing while playing without wide receiver Julian Edelman (concussion) and running back LeGarrette Blount (shoulder).Jonas Gray scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard run early in the fourth quarter after New England intercepted Smith. The Jets quarterback was 17 for 27 for 210 yards with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Cumberland. But with the Jets leading 13-10 late in the third quarter, Smiths pass for Jace Amaro hung in the air for an easy interception by Jamie Collins.Gray squeaked into the end zone up the middle — a video review stood after Ryan insisted on the sideline that the running backs knee might have been down — to give the Patriots a 17-13 lead with 13:51 remaining. The Jets then got into Patriots territory but stalled in the red zone — a common problem this season. They had to settle for a 37-yarder by Folk with 7:53 left that made it a one-point deficit at 17-16.Notes: Patriots CB Darrelle Revis had a mostly quiet return to the Meadowlands, playing against his former team for the first time since signing with New England — except for the fans booing him when he made a tackle. ... Jets C Nick Mangold injured his left ankle in the second quarter and was carted off the field. ... New York also played without WR Percy Harvin in the second half after he injured a rib.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL ' ' '
