FIVE QUICK NBA THOUGHTS: 1. ANDREW BOGUT (Warriors): He has begun talks on a contract extension with the Warriors with his contract expiring at the end of the season. Considering that he missed 50 of 82 games last year and has experienced injury issues in the past, Id say its a good idea for the Warriors to move in a cautious fashion. Dont get me wrong; when healthy this guy is a very good player and the injuries are no fault of his own, just some tough breaks. Hes a diligent worker and excellent team guy who can really pass, rebound and block shots. When hes right hes an intriguing guy in the post. Bogut understands the concerns and will have to be open to some degree of discussion with the Warriors, or anyone else this upcoming summer, to have Games Played incentives as part of a future deal. Bottom line, if he has a healthy/productive year it limits his exposure to a heavy-handed contract with incentives. Staying healthy, easier said than done. 2. MYCK KABONGO (Spurs): Kabongo was released by the Spurs; what a fall it has been the past few years for the undrafted Toronto native out of the University of Texas. The missed time from the NCAA suspension hurt his development. Its a humbling time but also an opportunity to truly look at his game and improve his shooting, decision making, and defence. All he has to do is look at a guy like Danny Green, who was briefly a teammate in San Antonio, to know that you could be down for a while but if you have the desire to improve and tighten your game another knock at the door will come. Be ready for it. Head to the D-League or Europe, get better, and bounce back. Its a temporary setback, nothing fatal. He still has lots of talent, figure it out. 3. TREY BURKE (Jazz): Burke is likely out with a finger injury for the next six weeks. Its a tough blow for the ninth-overall pick out of Michigan. He had a tough time at the Las Vegas Summer League and training camp and preseason games were critical for him to get on the right path. I loved his smarts and savvy for the Wolverines, he is an excellent distance shooter who makes others better. He doesnt have great burst to get into the seams of a defence but finds a way to effectively run an offence. What he needed was the trial and error of the October and November experience to grow. It wont be easy for him to jump on the moving train when he gets back at that position. Patience is required here. 4. ANTHONY BENNETT (Cavs): Its nice to see him back on the court after coming back from surgery. Im intrigued by how he will transition to the pros. Hes kind of a “tweener” (3/4) who can shoot the three and has a sweet face up game yet has enough interior craftiness to get his game off in the lane. His conditioning and defence will be the key to his development. Hes a guy that will have some learning scenarios at both positions so he really needs to be in terrific shape, be locked in to Mike Browns defensive schemes, and get after it from a competitive sense. There is solid competition at both spots for him so minutes wont just be thrown his way so I think this is a pretty good starting point for him. Overall, being back on the court allows him to figure it all out in live action and thats how you learn. 5. ANDRAY BLATCHE (Nets): This young man has a lot of talent yet when you watch him you always think to yourself hes only going at 75-80 percent of his potential. I cant wait to see how Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry, who are proud men who know what winning basketball and effort are all about deal with him. Having a guy like Jason Kidd as his coach, who brought an incredible blue collar effort and productivity to practice and games as a player, will be another good perspective for him. Environment does effect and this is a guy who has a lot more to give; you have to find a way to reach him. The dynamics are in place to do that. Im fascinated to see if these guys can get that other 20 to 25 percent out of him. If they do, watch out. Ultimately, its on him. How good do you want to be? Cheap Green Bay Packers Jerseys Online . But whether on the court with Kobe Bryant and Shaquille ONeal, or across the bargaining table from David Stern and Adam Silver, he never feared taking the shot, speaking his mind, or doing whatever else was expected of a leader. So he has every attribute the New York Knicks need -- except experience as a coach, the job they hired him to do. "But I am experienced," Fisher said Tuesday. "Basketball is a game that I am experienced in playing, understanding, leading in, guiding in, helping another group of people achieve the greatest gift in the world as a professional athlete, and thats being a champion. That I have experience in, and thats the experience that I plan on sharing with these players, sharing with this organization." Thats what made Phil Jackson turn to one of his most trustworthy former players for his first coaching hire. Just days after finishing his 18th season, the 39-year-old Fisher was tabbed to replace Mike Woodson, whom Jackson fired in his first major move as team president. Fisher won five championships playing for Jackson with the Los Angeles Lakers and was known for his knack for hitting clutch post-season shots while playing an NBA-record 259 playoff games. But some of his most important work came in the locker room, just as it will now. "He made some incredible shots in the playoffs, always stepped into the vacuum of leadership, but more than anything else it was the ability of Derek to speak the truth from what the sense of the group was," Jackson said during a press conference at the Knicks training centre in Greenburgh, New York. The Knicks went 37-45 and missed the playoffs, just a year after winning the Atlantic Division and advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals. Jackson, who declined an original offer to coach the team, was instead hired to run the front office in March and fired Woodson the week after the season ended. He was seeking someone familiar with the triangle offence and someone with little or no coaching experience that he could teach. The Knicks had nearly closed a deal to hire Steve Kerr, who insteaad left the TNT broadcast table to take the Golden State Warriors coaching job.dddddddddddd. Jackson then turned his attention to Fisher, even getting fined $25,000 last week when he was too open about his interest in the point guard who was still under contract with the Thunder. Terms of Fishers deal were not released, but a person with knowledge of the details said it was worth $25 million over five years -- the same length of Jacksons contract and about the same deal Kerr signed with the Warriors. Fisher won three straight titles from 2000-02 on the Lakers teams led by ONeal and Bryant, and helped them win again in 2009 and 10. He is respected among players around the league and was the president of the Players Association during the 2011 lockout. The 6-foot-1 Fisher was still a key contributor for the Thunder this season, helping them reach the Western Conference finals. Fisher, who is tied for third on the career list for 3-pointers in the NBA Finals, said thinking like a coach helped him play so long despite never being the most athletic or talented player. And now, like Jason Kidd in Brooklyn, he is prepared to make the leap right from the court to the bench without any coaching experience on any level. They Knicks won titles in 1970 and 1973, when Jackson was a player in the organization, but have had little post-season success in this century. Fisher, dressed sharply in a brown suit and purple shirt, believes he and Jackson can bring winning back to New York. "We know without a doubt that we can re-establish what that means, what that is," Fisher said. Fisher said he likes the triangle but would run what was best for the team. Jackson said he would always be available to help. The Knicks hope the duo can reach a group that admittedly tuned Woodson out at times. And perhaps can help persuade Carmelo Anthony, who can become a free agent in July, to remain in New York. Fisher, a former first-round pick from Arkansas Little-Rock, will certainly give New York a credibility that only champions can bring. "Thats why Im here," Fisher said. "Thats why I took advantage of this opportunity, to be a part of that process."
